5 Ways to Stay Healthy This Holiday Season

November 11, 2015 By Lindsay Wager Leave a Comment

Lindsay Wager Holiday HealthWe’re already halfway through November (I know, right?), so you know what that means: the holidays are almost here!

It can be challenging to stay healthy around this time of year: the sweets and treats start appearing everywhere, yummy leftovers stick around in the fridge, and it can feel so hard to pass on those dishes that your family makes only one time a year.

But, don’t worry! There is a way to stay fit and healthy from now until the New Year. Follow the tips below to start planning for success now:

Get Enough Sleep

We all know that getting enough sleep is important, but did you know that sleep is also closely connected to weight loss? The National Sleep Foundation writes that “sleep deprivation may…inhibit one’s ability to lose weight – even while exercising and eating well.”

Among the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it can be especially tempting to go with less sleep. Start planning your activities now to make sure you don’t overbook yourself. Remember that sleep is a priority, not an option.

Stay Moving

When our calendars fill up with travel, hosting duties, parties, and seasonal activities, it can be easy to feel like our regular routines have been overtaken. To keep your exercise routine a priority, start building a habit now. Instead of joining the gym in January, sign up today. If you build workouts into your weekly schedule now, you’ll be more likely to stick with them, even at the height of the holidays.

Hydrate

Plan ahead to make staying hydrated a priority. When the cocktails are plentiful, pace yourself by drinking a glass of water for every other beverage you consume. To stay hydrated in the chilly months, reach for a cup of hot water with lemon. You can also stock your purse with herbal teabags to stay warm and healthy while you travel.

Offer to Bring Something Healthy to the Party

You can inspire others, and guarantee there is at least one healthy dish at the party, by offering to bring a nutritious dish of your own. For inspiration, check out these healthy side dish and dessert recipes. This is a great way to show up with a contribution to the party, and to encourage healthy eating at the same time.

Eat Mindfully

When lots of little treats are around, it can be so easy to disconnect and mindlessly munch. Every time you eat, take a moment to check in with yourself and ask, Why am I eating this? Am I actually hungry, or is there an emotional reason (stress or boredom, for example) for why I am eating? When you check in with yourself before you eat, you’ll be more aware and more likely to make healthier choices.

I hope you can use these tips to stay healthy during the holiday season, and all throughout the year. Follow me on Pinterest @ Lindsay Wager for more health and fitness tips and tricks.

Simple Nail Design Ideas For Spring

April 21, 2015 By Lindsay Wager Leave a Comment

The sun is out, flowers are blooming, and people are out and about enjoying the beautiful weather. Spring is the time for sandals, sundresses, and refreshing new nail colors and designs. It is time to set aside those neutral, darker colors and bring out vibrant, bright, and wild patterns and colors for your nails. Let your nails be your best accessory. Plus, since you will often be wearing sandals or flip flops, you will have ten more nails to paint and show off on your toes!

Here are a few nail ideas to spring you into the spring spirit:

Pastel Nails | Lindsay Wager

-Pastels

Pastel colors are very popular this season. There are plenty of beautiful light, soft colors to chose from. Feel free to mix and match. Pastels are especially popular in early spring around Easter time. Find the perfect color that will go with just about anything.

Neon Nails | Lindsay Wager

-Neon

As the sun starts to shine brighter and brighter you may feel inspired to brighten up your nails as well. Neon colors are a great way to make a statement this spring and summer with a unique style. The bright neon shades will also go great with your tan! Just be sure to tone down your outfit if you go with brighter nails.

Animal Print Nails | Lindsay Wager

-Animal Print

Animal Print nails are another fun and easy way to make your nails look great for spring. First pick a design (leopard print, cheetah print, tiger stripes, zebra stripes,etc.). Then pick the colors you want to use and apply two coats of the base color. Once the base is dry, dab a few drops of the other colors you wish to use on a small piece of paper or index card. Then use a toothpick to carefully draw the animal print pattern onto the nail. If you want to take a short-cut, try Sally Hansen or Jamberry nail wraps.

Floral Nails | Lindsay Wager

-Floral

Flowers are one of the most recognizable signs of spring, so why not make them part of your nail design? Flowers are gorgeous and come in all shapes, sizes and colors, allowing you to get creative with your designs. Using the same toothpick technique mentioned above, or try nail wraps. Jamberry has lots of gorgeous flower wraps. Put a flower on only one finger, on a few, or on all ten. It’s completely up to you. I change mine up all the time!

6 Essential Tips for Single Parents

February 24, 2015 By Lindsay Wager Leave a Comment

These days, single parenting is becoming more and more common. Whether divorced, widowed, or single by choice, single parents are left to do a job for two which can easily become overwhelming and stressful, causing parents to sometimes forget and overlook the meaningful experiences that come with raising a child.Follow along with these helpful tips to help you stay more positive and stress-free while overcoming the difficulties and responsibilities of being a single parent.Tips for Single Parents

1. Take care of yourself

First and foremost, you need to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. If you can’t keep yourself happy and healthy, how can you expect to provide happiness and health for your child? Pay attention to your basic needs, which can become all too easy to neglect. Make sure you are practicing healthy eating habits and getting enough sleep. Incorporate exercise in your life wherever it will fit.

2. Accept help

You should never feel ashamed of asking for help. Every single-parent needs help at some point, whether they need someone to watch their kids while they go out and run errands or they just need someone to talk to and offer mental support when they are feeling overwhelmed.

Delegate small roles and responsibilities to willing friends and family members. Hire a sitter. Just a little bit of help can make a huge difference and decrease stress levels. While it may seem dignifying to try and do everything on your own, eventually you’ll burn out. Asking for help takes a huge load off your shoulders and will even strengthen your relationships with those who are happy to be there for you.

3. Prepare for emergencies

Unexpected and unplanned situations come up all the time. Taking care of a baby while you’re sick is no easy task. It’s important to have a plan to fall back on during times like this. Develop an “emergency list” of friends and family members you know you can count on to answer the phone at any hour of the day.

4. Manage your finances

Supporting yourself as well as your children off of one salary can be tough. Maintaining your finances is one of the hardest aspects of single parenting. It’s important to try to plan ahead as much as possible for the future. Work on creating budgets for yourself and sticking to them. Think about long-term investments. If possible, consider increasing your earning power by going back to school or receiving additional training in your job industry. Any extra money that you can save or come by will go a long way in your mission to support your family.

5. Try to maintain a schedule

Maintaining and managing a daily schedule can help you keep it all together. Try scheduling time slots to run errands every week. Schedule a time to work out or get in some sort of physical activity. It’s easy to tell yourself that you’ll go when you have time, but if you don’t set aside a specific time for it, you’ll always think of something else that needs to be done! Schedules may seem daunting, but they can make day to day life run so much smoother.

6. Stay positive

It’s easy to become overwhelmed with all the responsibilities and demands of single parenting. Raising a child is no easy task and it can be even more daunting when you’re left to do it alone. Worry and stressing is a total waste of time and energy. No matter what you may be going through, it’s so utterly important to maintain a positive attitude for both you, and your little one!
